Who is Babaji

Mahavatar Babaji means “Divine Incarnation” is both ageless and eternally young. Sometimes he is formless, while at other times, he appears before his disciples in any form he wishes to liberate humanity from its worldly fetters. This Himalayan yogi is said to incarnate himself each time that it is necessary to relight the Kriya Yoga flame.

Kriya Yoga is an age-old tradition. There is no record of it’s history. It is the technique of spirituality, which has been practiced by saints, seers and sages from time immemorial. Even in Indian mythology, it is mentioned that Rama and Krishna also practiced and taught this technique of Kriya Yoga.

After apparently being lost in the increasing spiritual decline of later epochs, towards the middle of the nineteenth century, a mysterious Master, the timeless Avatar Babaji Maharaj, brought the teaching into a new form and gave the ancient heritage the name “Kriya Yoga”. Babaji is a renowned Yogi, who is supposed to have lived in the Himalayas for many hundreds of years until the present time. However, he reveals himself only to a few people including Paramahamsa Yogananda, Sadguru Sri Mageshda and few others and is his unique way of guiding disciples on the path of divinity toward rapid liberation. He appeared before Paramahamsa Yogananda before Yoganandaji’s voyage to the West. The full account is written in his book “Autobiography of a Yogi”.
