2012: Gateway to Your Future
is being held in the beautiful
CONVOCATION HALL
UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO

History of Toronto Toronto means "where
there are trees standing in the water", according to
several Mohawk speakers and aboriginal language expert
John Steckley. Mohawks used the phrase to describe The
Narrows, where Herons and other natives drove stakes into
the water to create fish weirs. In 1615, Samuel de
Champlain described these structures as blocking the
channels, with a few openings left for catching fish in
nets. Radiocarbon dating of surviving stakes reveals that
the weirs at The Narrows were in use more than 4,000
years ago.
Getting Around In
addition to participating in Wisdom-Forum’s 2012: Gateway
to Your Future Conference, you will enjoy being next to
CN Tower, Rogers Center (Sky dome), and waterfront
besides being just blocks from the heart of downtown
Toronto. You may want to arrive a few days earlier and
take in some points of interest Toronto is famous for.
You can’t walk two blocks in the city without seeing a
double-decker tour bus or a billboard advertising a King
Street musical. Hotel lobbies are filled with pamphlets
for obvious attractions like Toronto Maple Leafs games or
the Royal Ontario Museum -- and the CN Tower is pretty
hard to miss -- but what if you want to see more than
just the postcard-worthy parts of the city? Toronto is
thriving multicultural mosaic known for it’s ethnic
pockets such as Little India, Little Italy, Greek town,
China town complete with delicious ethnic cuisine and
arts and crafts. Before or after the conference you might
enjoy a day trip to the world famous Niagara Falls which
is 1 ½ hours away or take our excellent subway
transportation to go shopping in our underground
walkways. It’s worth a visit to Yonge-Dundas public
square, with billboards, big lights, concerts and public
events, it is hailed as Toronto’s Times Square and gives
visitors a taste of the bustling downtown Yonge Street
known as the longest street in North America stretching
222 miles.
