Sheena Singh

sheena singhI came to Los Angeles from India in 1975. My first job was working at the Chiropractic College, Dean of Student’s office. It became the beginning of my path to awareness.
I would spend many lunch hours in the cadaver room because anatomy had always fascinated me.  During my first visit I saw two male cadavers, one black and one white, lying side by side. Being from Northern India and born into an upper middle class family, I grew up fearing dark skin and was quite class conscious as well, so I had my apprehensions about different races and cultures.

With my hours in the cadaver room I had front row seats to actual medical dissections. I was introduced to this with these two polar opposite male bodies I had come upon. As they began dissecting the first layer of skin I was literally amazed. The colour of the muscles beneath the skin was exactly alike in both cadavers!  Every few days the dissection went deeper and deeper and so did my awe as I saw that right down to the bone, they were identical. The only difference truly was the colour of the skin.  This was a huge revelation to me and thus the genesis of the thought that we really are all ONE!

Around this same time, I picked up a book called “Past Life Therapy”. The author was Dr. Morris Netherton. By the time I completed it, I knew that Past Life Therapy was what I wanted to do with my life.  I went back to Loyola University to get a MA in Counseling Psychology and ended up undergoing my own therapy with Dr. Netherton. During the very first session I was cured of a chronic pain I had had in my uterus area for 10 years! This miraculous event certainly convinced me that I was on the right path.  I proceeded to get training and certification to be a Past Life Therapist myself.

Move forward to 1993.

I was married now and moved to Toronto and instantly loved this city.  I worked for an employment equity consulting company finding jobs for racial minorities, people with disabilities and women.  Being in touch with Human Resources for all kinds of companies, I soon realized that those doing the hiring had very little information and insight into the different cultures of the individuals who wanted to be hired.

An idea sparked in my mind as this realization dawned on me.  I had been collecting a unique calendar every year and used it regularly and treasured it.  I began to wonder why wasn’t there a calendar that listed the observances and holy days of all religions?
Being an artist myself I thought, “I can use my artistic gift to come up with my own culturally diverse calendar featuring a yearly theme.  It would emphasize our connectedness as a human race and I could create the paintings that would support the chosen theme.”  Thus the first Multicultural Calendar was printed in 1992.  “The Magic of Music”, “Global Dancers”, “The Gift of Food”, “Colours and Emotions,” are some of the past titles I have produced. The Calendar has proven to be a very useful diversity tool in the workplace for human resources and employees.  It has a life of its own now and is sold in Canada, USA and UK through my non-profit company, Creative Cultural Communications.

Along with the launch of this enterprise came the fifteen minutes of fame. I was featured in main newspapers throughout Toronto. There was also a mini-documentary style TV program on Women’s Network Television, OMNI (Ontario Multicultural Channel), and other shows.  The calendar project also allowed me the opportunity to travel through Israel, Egypt, Kenya, China, Peru, Scotland, England, Tibet and Mexico.  I went to many sacred sites and immersed myself briefly in those cultures.
As I travelled, what impressed me the most was that although people looked physically different, they were all the same in spirit – I always remembered my two cadaver friends. Therefore, when I create my art for the calendars, it is impressionistic. The human figures are featureless to coincide with the awareness that there is universally the same spirit in all people.

Move forward to 1999.

Through amazing synchronicities, I reconnected with my first love, who was a dashing Captain in the Indian Army when I knew him at the age of 18.  He was now working in the travel industry in India and suggested I could bring spiritual tours to India.  I was then inspired to attend workshops led by John Perkins, author of “Shapeshifting, Techniques for Global and Personal Transformation” and “Seduction of Spirit” led by Deepak Chopra. I also travelled with another tour to Egypt led by Caroline Myss. As I was entertaining the idea of leading my own spiritual tours, I wanted to learn the art of a successful tour from the very best.

Thus began the third profession of my career organizing spiritual tours to India and Nepal/Tibet through a company I formed – Reconnection Journeys.  This found me organizing a tour for John Perkins to Ladakh and Tibet and I dare say that the highlight of that first tour with John was our meeting with His Holiness, the Dalai Lama on a flight over the Himalayan Mountains.  I personally asked His Holiness for a private audience for our group and he agreed!  (But of course he did, because I had had three dreams earlier where I saw him meeting with us).  Since then, we have done wonderful tours coordinating with Dr. Norm Shealy, The Prophets Conference and Dr. Joan Borysenko along with some that I have personally led.

Move forward to 2010.

For many years now I had felt a heartfelt desire to do meaningful conferences in Toronto around themes that were uppermost in people’s minds and thoughts. Around my birthday (I am a Piscean); I really felt that now was the time to create a venue for people to reflect upon their lives during this extraordinary period on earth.

The key component that I knew was vital in launching this event was that it had to be within the financial reach of the general public. I wanted it to be universally appealing as well as, doable for anyone who was compelled to attend. I wanted to reach those who were new to the spiritual journey as well and Wisdom Annex was born.

Perhaps one day I will write a book about my own journey. It will be titled “My Co-Inky Dinky Life.” That was the term my dad used referring to the constant coincidences that kept occurring throughout my adventures. With my three simultaneous careers, I have met many wonderful people, made lifelong friends, and have gained pearls of wisdom from the many gurus in both our Western and Eastern worlds.

I consider myself to be one lucky soul guided by Spirit, fulfilling my life’s purpose just playing in the Universe and inviting others to join the Dance!
